Search for Pauli exclusion principle violating atomic transitions and electron decay with a p-type point contact germanium detector

چکیده
A search for Pauli-exclusion-principle-violating Kα electron transitions was performed using 89.5 kg-d of data collected with a p-type point contact high-purity germanium detector operated at the Kimballton Underground Research Facility. A lower limit on the transition lifetime of 5.8 × 10 s at 90% C.L. was set by looking for a peak at 10.6 keV resulting from the X-ray and Auger electrons present following the transition. A similar analysis was done to look for the decay of atomic K-shell electrons into neutrinos, resulting in a lower limit of 6.8 × 10 s at 90% C.L. It is estimated that the Majorana Demonstrator, a 44 kg array of p-type point contact detectors that will search for the a e-mail: [email protected] neutrinoless double-beta decay of Ge, could improve upon these exclusion limits by an order of magnitude after three years of operation.

Test of the Pauli Exclusion Principle in the VIP-2 Underground Experiment
The validity of the Pauli exclusion principle—a building block of Quantum Mechanics—is tested for electrons. The VIP (violation of Pauli exclusion principle) and its follow-up VIP-2 experiments at the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso search for X-rays from copper atomic transitions that are prohibited by the Pauli exclusion principle. The candidate events—if they exist—originate from the tra...
متن کاملNew Experimental Limits on the Pauli-Forbidden Transitions in 12C Nuclei Obtained with 485 Days Borexino Data
The Pauli exclusion principle (PEP) has been tested for nucleons (n, p) in C with the Borexino detector. The approach consists of a search for γ, n, p and β emitted in a non-Paulian transition of 1P3/2shell nucleons to the filled 1S1/2 shell in nuclei. Due to the extremely low background and the large mass (278 t) of the Borexino detector, the following most stringent up-to-date experimental bou...
متن کاملFrom Pauli Principle to Hypernucleus, Neutron Star, and . . .
Proposed by Wolfgang Pauli more than 80 years ago, the exclusion principle has been proven to have a far-reaching consequence, from femtoscopic world to macroscopic, super-dense, and fully relativistic physics. Starting from this principle, we discuss two interesting research topics, which have currently drawn considerable attention in the nuclear-and astrophysics communities; the hypernuclear ...

Search for Squark Production in R-Parity Violating Supersymmetry at HERA This thesis describes a search for squarks in supersymmetric models which allow R-parity violation. Electron-proton and positron-proton collisions taken at a centre of mass energy of 320GeV have been investigated using the H1 detector at HERA. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 64.3 pb−1 for ep collisions a...
متن کاملFinite-difference time-domain model of lasing action in a four-level two-electron atomic system.
We report a new finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) computational model of the lasing dynamics of a four-level two-electron atomic system. Transitions between the energy levels are governed by coupled rate equations and the Pauli Exclusion Principle. This approach is an advance relative to earlier FDTD models that did not include the pumping dynamics, or the Pauli Exclusion Principle. Further,...
